World Book Day Celebration – A Day of Stories, Creativity and Inspiration
Year 4 had a wonderful time celebrating World Book Day today.
SLIDESHOW_{3897}e the children embracing the joy of reading in so many different ways.
Many children arrived dressed as their favourite characters from books, bringing stories to life around the school. From magical heroes to well-loved storybook characters, the creativity and enthusiasm were wonderful to see. Other children chose to come dressed in comfortable pyjamas, ready to curl up with a good book and enjoy a day dedicated to reading.
A special highlight of the day was a visit from award-winning author and poet Alex Wharton. Alex is well known for his energetic and engaging poetry performances and for inspiring children to see poetry as something fun, powerful and expressive. His work encourages young people to play with language, rhythm and imagination.
Alex led a whole-school assembly where he performed some of his poems in a lively and interactive way. The children particularly enjoyed how he rapped some of his poetry, bringing words and rhythms together in an exciting performance that had everyone listening and smiling.
Later in the day, Alex ran creative writing workshops with the children. During these sessions, he encouraged them to experiment with words, sounds and ideas to create their own poetry. The children were highly engaged, full of enthusiasm and eager to share their creative work.
It was truly inspiring to see how confidently the children expressed their ideas and how much they enjoyed exploring poetry in a fun and imaginative way.
