Netball - Southill vs Radipole

After school today, a group of enthusiastic Southill netballers made the short journey to our neighbours at Radipole for our first fixture of the year. Some of the team had represented the school before, while others were brand new to competitive matches and eager to take to the court. Here’s how the game unfolded:

First Quarter

Southill settled quickly and began the match with real intent. Wave after wave of attacking play created plenty of chances. Bella worked tirelessly in the centre, repeatedly driving the ball forward, and came close to scoring on several occasions. It was Zeff, however, who opened the scoring with a calm, composed finish from the middle of the D. Despite dominating much of the early play, Southill finished the quarter with a narrow 1–0 lead.

Second Quarter

This period saw Southill really hit their stride. Skyla and Mia were outstanding in defence, shutting down Radipole’s key attacking threats and turning over possession time and again. Their hard work allowed Zeff to control the centre court superbly, providing opportunities for both Luna and Max in attack. Luna constantly found excellent positions and was always available for the pass, while Max—fresh from last year’s netball cup success—showcased his skill with three excellent goals. Southill led 4–0 at half-time.

Third Quarter

After a brief team talk and a switch of ends, Southill continued to impress. Max and Zeff worked brilliantly together to mark Radipole’s attackers, keeping play in our attacking two thirds. Bella’s sharp passing at centre helped feed Mia and Skyla into the D, setting up further scoring opportunities. Mia showed great awareness and unselfish play, consistently using Skyla’s height and movement under the post. This partnership paid off as Skyla added three superb goals to extend the lead.

Final Quarter

Radipole rallied in the final period, with their goal attack finding excellent form and scoring a well-earned hat-trick. Despite the pressure, Southill continued to push forward. Luna delivered a beautifully weighted pass through to Skyla, who finished confidently to round off Southill’s scoring.

The match ended Southill 8 – 3 Radipole, a fantastic result and a brilliant team performance from Skyla, Max, Mia, Bella, Zeff and Luna.

A huge thank you to all parents and grandparents for transporting the children and braving the cold to cheer us on. Special thanks also to Mrs Hill and her Radipole team for hosting such a great match, and to Lexi for capturing action shots of the team.

Well done to our superb Southill netballers for putting on an exciting and impressive display.
