Mexican inspired cactus sculptures

We are nearing the end of our art unit on Mexican artists and the inspiration they take from their environment, weather and culture.  This week the children loved designing their own cactus and then creating their sculpture from their design.  They used the score technique to add reliefs to the side of their pots and slip (water with clay) as a bonding agent to make sure their joins were seamless.  The children created a variety of different cactus including the hedgehog cactus, old man cactus, moon cactus and golden cactus.  The sculptures look amazing and we are looking forward to painting them next week with bright, bold and vivid colours.
