Baaa-rilliant Writing in Year 1!

Our Year 1s have been having an absolute baaaaa-rilliant time in our writing lessons as we dive into the classic tale of The Three Billy Goats Gruff! 🐐

We’ve really thrown ourselves into the story, getting fully into character and acting out the whole adventure. The children have loved bringing the characters to life, especially when it comes to the best bit… booting that ugly, evil troll right off the bridge! There have been some very enthusiastic performances and our little goats have certainly shown the troll who’s boss!

But today, things got even MORE exciting…

Instead of simply acting like goats, we decided to become real-life goats! The classroom was transformed into an adventurous obstacle course and our little goats had a mission: navigate their way through all sorts of tricky challenges before finally making it across the bridge.

There were tunnels to crawl through, bumpy surfaces to carefully clamber over, tight spaces to squeeze through and plenty of obstacles to tackle along the way. The children had to think, move and behave just like real goats, using their bodies and imaginations to bring the story to life in the most wonderful way.

And let’s just say… we had some reallllllly smelly goats in our classroom! From funny goat noises and wobbly walks to cheeky little goat antics, the children absolutely embraced their roles. Their imaginations ran wild and the laughter was contagious!

What made this lesson so special was seeing the children completely immerse themselves in the story. They weren’t just retelling The Three Billy Goats Gruff; they were experiencing it! By exploring different obstacles and acting out the goats’ journey, the children were building their understanding of the story, developing their vocabulary and gathering lots of brilliant ideas to use in their writing.

Most importantly, they were having an absolute blast! Well done, Year 1!
